How this works
DrugPriceWatch lists 20 of the most common generic medications, organized into six categories: pain relievers, cholesterol (statins), diabetes medicines, antibiotics, antihistamines, and acid-reflux drugs (PPIs).
For each drug you’ll see two figures. The retail range is what a typical pharmacy might charge for a standard 30-day supply before any discount, and the cash range is the out-of-pocket price if you pay without insurance. These are broad, illustrative ranges intended to help you understand relative cost — not exact quotes.
Why do prices vary so much? The same generic pill can cost a few dollars at one pharmacy and far more at another, depending on the pharmacy’s markup, your insurance plan’s formulary, and whether you use a discount card. That’s why the side-by-side compare tool shows the midpoint of each range, so you can see at a glance which option is usually cheaper.
Every drug has its own detail page with the generic-versus-brand explanation, common strengths, and general notes on how insurance and discount programs work. Compare two drugs on the side-by-side page. Figures are educational reference prices, not a quote and not medical advice.
