The Mifflin-St Jeor equation
This is one of the most widely used equations for estimating basal metabolic rate:
BMR (men) = 10·weight + 6.25·height − 5·age + 5
BMR (women) = 10·weight + 6.25·height − 5·age − 161
where weight is in kilograms, height in centimetres, and age in years. Your TDEE is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor — from 1.2 (sedentary) up to 1.9 (very active).
What is BMR vs TDEE?
- BMR is the energy your body burns at complete rest to stay alive.
- TDEE adds the energy you burn from movement, exercise, and digestion.
